Green Candidate Will Quit For Liberals

OTTAWA — The Green and Liberal candidates in the B.C. riding of Kelowna–Lake Country have formed an unorthodox alliance that could see a Grit MP sitting in two party caucuses.

Gary Adams was nominated Thursday evening to represent the Greens. A notice on the riding association’s Facebook site said “Adams will immediately step down to co-operate with Liberal candidate Stephen Fuhr in an effort to unseat Ron Cannan and the Conservatives.”

Fuhr told The Huffington Post Canada he has been negotiating with the local Green riding association for the past three months and the two had come up with a memorandum of understanding. Fuhr pledged — if elected — to keep in close touch with the Green riding association, as he would with his own Liberal association, and the Green party leadership in Ottawa.

“If that means meeting at the Tim Hortons around the corner from Parliament Hill with Green leadership, then I will do that,” he said, noting that decisions such as meeting with both party caucuses hadn’t been made yet.
