World Rivers Day Tour to Canada’s 3rd Tallest Sitka Spruce Tree in Qualicum Beach’s Famous Salmon Forest

September 26, 2012 – Qualicum Beach, British Columbia   In Celebration of World Rivers Day, the Wilderness Committee is inviting the public to come out this Sunday for a delightful wildlife-rich autumn afternoon guided tour of Qualicum Beach’s famous Salmon Forest to the 3rd tallest Sitka Spruce Tree in Canada.

“The 56.5 hectare Qualicum Beach Salmon Forest, which the community has been working hard to protect since 2000, encompasses the  Little Qualicum River Floodplain which gives life to one of the richest and most popular salmon recreation fisheries on east Vancouver Island, as well as contributing to the commercial fishery, as the river supports all seven species of salmonids with hundreds of thousand salmon spawning in the spawning channels upstream,”  said AnnetteTanner Wilderness Committee spokesperson.  
 
“The river will be full of Chinook and people may get splashed as they tour the forest,” says Tanner.  It is an easy level walk to the record Sitka Spruce Tree. shoes. Displays and information tables start at 12:00 noon, with the Blessing of the Salmon at 12:45 pm just before the tour at 1:00 pm.
