Radioactivity Levels in Fukushima Harbour

Fukushima Update # 83: March 15, 2013

by Nelle Maxey

Never mind the “mays” and “maybes” in this article, the point is clear.

Since 44% of the water in the harbour is replaced every day with fresh seawater, a massive amount of leakage is going on to keep levels of caesium and strontium at a steady highs.

This is only what one would expect when cooling water continues to be poured over the corium in the reactors and groundwater continues to infiltrate the highly contaminated water-filled rooms under the reactors.

At the same time as rivers are being contaminated with radioactive groundwater infiltration, rain and snow continue to wash contamination from the land and forests into the rivers and ultimately to the ocean.
