‘No Enbridge’ Rally Vancouver Saturday

Thousands expected at 'No Enbridge' rally in Vancouver Saturday

What: Thousands are expected at today’s Vancouver ‘No Enbridge’ rally, a flagship event of the national ‘Defend Our Climate’ day of action with over 115 actions taking place across Canada.

When: Saturday, Nov. 16, starting at 2pm.

Where: Next to Science World on False Creek (near Main Street Skytrain Station)

Who: First Nations leaders, politicians, environmentalists, and citizens from all walks of life. Speakers will include: Ben West of ForestEthics Advocacy, Art Sterritt Executive Director of the Coastal First Nations, Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen, Yinka Dene Alliance representative Jasmine Thomas, and local Vancouver high school climate activist Sam Harrison amongst others.

Why: “The Coastal First Nations have spent the last decade building a conservation based economy,” says Art Sterritt, the executive director of Coastal First Nations, who will be speaking at Saturday’s rally. Sterritt calls on all British Columbians to stand up for the Great Bear Rainforest: “An oil spill will damage and destroy the cultural, ecological, and economic values of the Great Bear.”

Youth activist Sam Harrison, a 17-year-old student at Vancouver’s Prince of Wales Secondary, says his generation of British Columbians are determined to stop the Enbridge pipeline: “We see this as a major turning point for this province — this is a global crisis and the public in BC wants us to be part of the solution to climate change, not a big part of the problem.”

“Saying no to the Enbridge pipeline is as black and white as the orcas the project threatens. Today's rally is sending a strong message to Christy Clark and Stephen Harper — it's time to listen to the people and stop this reckless pipeline project once and for all,” said Ben West.
