Lead Now on Defending Our Coast, Defending Our Democracy

It’s Friday afternoon and we can’t wait for the weekend to be over – seriously. Next week, there are two major actions in BC that will send a powerful message to our provincial and federal governments: respect the growing BC-wide consensus and defend our coast from pipelines and tankers.

We’ve teamed up with the Dogwood Initiative to facilitate the Defend our Coast BC-wide day of action on October 24th. We’ll link arms at MLA offices across the province and say “Defend our Coast” with banners and creative visuals.

Volunteer leaders have already stepped up in 54 communities, now we need your help to make this huge. (Already going? Please share this new infographic and action page to spread the word)

Despite the growing BC-wide consensus, our federal government is trying to ram the tar sands pipelines through local opposition. New, secretive, trade agreements are threatening our democracy, and our provincial government is sitting on the fence and suggesting that BC’s coast can be bought.

It's time to send a powerful message. We need our elected representatives to make a firm commitment to no tanker expansion, a move that would stop the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline and Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion.

So on October 22nd and 24th, we’ll make a powerful visual statement to show the unprecedented depth and breadth of this movement, and we will show our politicians that we are organizing in the communities they represent.

Defend our Coast has been endorsed by a huge range of leaders like David Suzuki, Bill McKibbon and Chief Jackie Thomas. With thousands pledging to be there in Victoria on the 22nd, and 54 (and counting) communities across BC on the 24th, we need your help to make this huge – please join in or spread the word.

Let’s tell our governments to respect the growing BC-wide consensus and protect our coast from tar sands pipelines and tankers. Let’s support the First Nations who have led this movement, and have a right to free, prior and informed consent to mega-projects on their land.

Thank you for all you do.
