Greenpeace Weather Balloon to Predict the Possible Range of Ontario Nuclear Fallout

Toronto, December 3, 2012 – Greenpeace will join groups and individuals today at hearings held by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to oppose Ontario Power Generation’s request to approve spending $8– 14 billion to run the four Darlington reactors until 2055.

Shawn-Patrick Stensil, Greenpeace Canada’s nuclear analyst and Greenpeace’s activists will be on site to present a project that will show that Ontario’s current nuclear emergency accident plans haven’t been upgraded in the aftermath of the Fukishima accident and plan to make that displeasure fly.

What:   Greenpeace at the public submissions on the future of the Darlington nuclear reactors

                                 When:  Monday Dec 3rd.  1PM

Where: Hope Fellowship Church parking lot, 1685 Bloor St. Courtice, ON

The scope of CNSC’s environmental assessment is very restricted. It ignores the station’s impact on Lake Ontario and its negative effect on the future growth of renewable energy locally.

Shawn-Patrick Stensil will be available to do interviews during the hearings.
