Field observations at English Bay, Cancouver, BC for Saturday April 11,2015
Yesterday I focused my attention on some areas in West Vancouver. I did find an area between 29th and 30th steet with no crews onsite.
Today as I stopped briefly at West Vancouver I could see people moving about on the Beach at Stanley Park. Upon arrival I counted 17 contract workers gathered in one spot polishing the oil off the cobble. It seemed like a lot of crew for such a small spot, but then it is Saturday morning and I did see a camera set up on the seawall filming. After leaving this area, I went west along the seawall and it wasn’ t five minutes before I came across another oil beach , then another one. I tried to phone it in to the number provided on the sign posted at the beach and the person from the City of Vancouver told me it wasn’t her job to gather this information, but the federal government. (I called again an hour and half later and this time the person who answered the phone happily took down my GPS information and said it would be passed on.)
A coast guard boat happened along, I waved it over, and asked them if they could please go back and break up the photo op and ask the contractor to send some of the 17 down here to work on these two beaches covered in oil. They happily said they would.
Here’s a video clip of what John saw: HERE
