Trans Mountain Pipeline Poem

Trans Mountain Repairs Summer 2013. Photo by David Ellis

It is 63 years rusting
And here pressure
Is strongest
And it was most probably dented
When lowered
And has never been
Replaced
Just patched externally
I will forward pictures
If you like

Replacement would mean a shut down
of oil flow
For 2 weeks
This must be done
Now
Or next spring
NEB
Please do your job

Repairs going on the near vertical “Jump Off” in summer of 2013. Note stump (from a still living tree) remains in place on top of the pipe despite the repair attempts, which were all BELOW this stump; so the stump and its roots, were never disengaged from the pipe. Nor was any of the old pipe replaced, it was just coated = no strength = no real change. Why was this work even attempted? Full replacement of the 62 year old, now highly stressed pipe here is now obviously very urgent given the recent spills and many repairs in the area. This will mean a shut down for many weeks and loss of revenue but Kinder Morgan is clearly avoiding such large scale repairs/shut downs. ~ David Ellis
