Most Canadians have never heard of FIPA, the Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection Agreement, because Prime Minister Harper tried to sneak it through without a single vote or debate in Parliament.
- FIPA will allow foreign corporations the right to sue Canadian governments for legislating in the public interest and protecting our environment.
- FIPA will give China’s state-owned corporations access to and control over Canada’s natural resources.
- FIPA allows disputes to be heard by unaccountable tribunals with no public access.
- FIPA was negotiated in secret without consultation or debate.
- FIPA will lock Canada in for 31 years.
The Canada-China FIPA could be approved any day now unless we work together to stop it. If enough of us raise our voices now, we can create a massive public outcry to stop this devastating deal in its tracks.
