Corps Sue Govts for Failure to Consult First Nations

And here’s yet another twist on the First Nations legal rights — companies sueing the governments for their failuure to consult First Nations, resulting in disruption to business by the First Nations affected.

“The government of British Columbia has been ordered to pay a forestry company $1.7 million for damages suffered during a blockade in 2006 and experts say other provinces, especially Ontario, should sit up and take notice.”

Mining the taxpayer, but at least the Firt Nations’ rights are being recognised by the courts.
