Vancouver, May 10, 2013 – Inspired by the position taken by the NDP opposing the Enbridge and Kinder Morgan pipelines and the carbon tax author/environmentalist Tzeporah Berman and Tar Sands Campaign Director Ben West are calling on volunteers to join them going door to door on the last weekend before tuesday's election to garner support for NDP candidates they are calling “champions for the coast”.
Tzeporah Berman will be joining volunteers knocking on doors with NDP Candidate David Eby in Vancouver Point Grey on Saturday from 1 – 5pm. They will be meeting at Eby's campaign office at 3476 West Broadway. Eby is the former Executive Director of the BC Civil Liberties Society and also worked for the Pivot Legal Society.
“Knocking on doors in Point Grey you can sometimes actually see oil tankers going by and it really hits home for me about why we are doing this, the risk is very real. David Eby and the BC NDP are committed to defending our coast from a dramatic increase in oil tanker traffic. In comparison Christy Clark and the BC Liberals seem willing to sell out the coast to the highest bidder and they have completely mismanged the climate file. I know David will be a strong representative for those of us who live in Point Grey and I am really happy to be able to support him in this way,” said Berman.
Ben West, Tar Sands Campaign Director with ForestEthics Advocacy is calling on volunteers to join him at George Heymans office at 108 E. Broadway at 1pm on Sunday to help him knock on doors Vancouver Fairview for the NDPs candidate who is the former Sierra Club of BC ED and before that spent 9 years as BCGEU President.
“George has been a real champion working hard to stop the Enbridge and Kinder Morgan pipeline proposals that would bring tar sands oil to tankers on our coast so we need to get out there and work hard for him this weekend. “ said West. “We want to make sure people know that there simply is no one else running in this election the unique experience and ability that George Heyman has. He is uniquely qualified to make change for the better on environmental issues and to help create good green jobs we can all be proud of” said West.
Berman and West expect dozens of volunteers to come out to canvass with them on Saturday and have created facebook events for their door knocking efforts as well as posted photos of themselves with the candidates and endorsement videos on youtube in an effort to promote the event.
